The Phases of Eventing
Experience dressage, cross country, and show jumping at Santa Fe’s premier eventing-development competitions. All ages and all riding styles are welcome!

Dressage
Showing the horse’s movement and obedience in this disciplined, artistic phase. We offer traditional dressage-only classes, Western dressage, as well as the combined-test which is dressage and show jumping, and the full horse trials is dressage, show jumping and cross country
Cross Country
Test endurance and courage over varied terrain and natural obstacles. The solid fences encourage horses to gallop on boldly and develop balance and coordination.
Show Jumping

Jumping a winding course of colorful obstacles with accuracy and within the time allowed. We offer Tadpole (1' high), to Starter (2'3") to Beginner Novice (2'7") and Novice (2'11") in the full horse trials, to Preliminary (3'7") in the combined test competition.

While Western Dressage is not a traditional part of eventing, the X Games is happy to offer this component as well!
We have a special division, Tadpole, where we offer the opportunity to experience this sport at the most supportive level, where you can have your coach walk beside you, the jumps are only 12" tall, and your coach can get you through every phase, with as much handholding and cheering as needed. Any tack is fine, you just need a helmet with harness, and boots. It's the perfect start for a green horse, or a Western horse who can step over a log on the trail!
An Intro Eventing Experience for Everyone, Tadpole!

A little
X Games history
The Event Organizing Committee provides a unique equestrian event that offers opportunities for equestrian participation in a multifaceted sport that encourages and welcomes riders from all ages, levels and from many disciplines.
From our beginning, we have provided a safe, fun experience for our riders incorporating Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country from the most introductory levels onward. To do this we have maintained cross-country courses of at least five levels, a complement of Show Jumping material sufficient for Show Jump courses at those levels and one or two Dressage courts. With the extensive physical plant we have also provided judging and officiating by nationally credentialed people to provide a larger, more realistic and educational experience. (These people officiate and also teach to the participants providing national level instruction through the weekend.) Our riders have five or six yearly Games in which to compete, as well as learn from the experts, as they accumulate points toward year-end prizes and scholarships. In order to further support our equestrian community, the EOC subsidizes entries for any member of the USPC as well as contributing yearly to the Santa Fe Horse Shelter.
Last year we had the bonus challenge of relocating the Games to Double Diamond Ranch where our new venue came together remarkably well. We were able to use some of the jumps from the old venue, and the Thomas Smart family gifted the EOC approximately two dozen jumps from Tom's estate. Wow, this gift was a cost and materials saving of enormous value. We ended 2025 able to offer two Games that fulfilled our mission and cemented our commitment to the continued development of the venue at Double Diamond and to stage the 2026 Games there
We are entering our second decade of Eventing X Games and we are entering our second year at our new venue. We are building on past Games and developing our new home. We hope you'll come and enjoy it with us!
